On July 7, 2023, American musician Gene Simmons talked about his parents during his appearance on Piers Morgan’s show on Sky News Australia.
While revealing about his mom’s past life in the Nazi concentration camp, he said that both his father and mother were born in Hungary.
He said, “I didn’t know anything about my mother. She wouldn’t talk about her formative years in Hungary where she and my father were born.”
Gene Simmons also disclosed that his parents separated when he was about six or seven years old, as his father, Feri Witz, abandoned him and his mother. So, he grew up with his mom, whom he considers his source of inspiration.
On the other hand, Gene never looked back at his dad, mentioning that he never wanted to be like him. He also maintained a distance from his patriarch, but standing at his estranged dad’s grave later, Gene regretted his stubbornness.

Born in 1925 to his parents Eugen Jakob Witz and Eugenia Witz, the father of Gene Simmons, Feri passed away back in 2002 at the age of 76. Much later, the co-lead singer of the hard rock band Kiss traveled to his birthplace, Israel, calling it an ‘unfinished business.‘
Meanwhile, he visited his father’s grave and regretted being estranged from him all his life. Reading the letter his father left, he gushed, “I was so stupid. I don’t know why I didn’t go to see him. I’m so sorry.”
